New Frontiers depends upon its members to volunteer their time, fulfilling many important roles in our organization. Some roles are ongoing while others might be needed only occasionally, such as twice per year.
We encourage our members to contribute their skills by contacting one of our committee chairs to offer their expertise. There are many different volunteering positions and opportunities available.

Curriculum Committee
The Curriculum Committee is responsible for managing all aspects of classes conducted for New Frontiers members. These responsibilities include interviewing prospective class presenters, scheduling classes, and arranging classroom facilities as well as generating the class schedule that is published twice each year. We have a large committee of volunteer members and we are always looking for more members. We have a variety of volunteer opportunities available!

Membership Committee
The Membership Committee assists people who would like to become members of New Frontiers and coordinates the flow of information about activities and events to members and prospective members. Members receive news and information through our website, newsletter, and an email distribution system. The best times to join are in September or January to enjoy an entire semester of classes and social events. You may become a member at our Open House events held at the beginning of each semester or anytime during the year. Check our Calendar for dates and times. A New Members Coffee is offered each semester, providing newcomers with an overview of New Frontiers and an opportunity to meet other members.
You are also welcome to attend a Membership Committee meeting to find out our other varied activities. They are held on the first Friday of each month, August to November and January to March. Check the Calendar for dates, times, and locations.
Our committee also helps to support current members of New Frontiers. Contact Diana Pearce, our Sunshine Lady, if you know of a member who is experiencing the loss of a dear one, is hospitalized, or has a long-term illness.

Publicity and Member Communications Committee
The Communication's Committee is responsible for writing and publishing the NFLL newsletter, our Speaker’s Bureau, and Marketing activities including: NFLL articles for newspapers and other media, interaction with communities of the East Valley, and other outreach.

Social Committee
The Social Committee believe that social activities are an important part of what New Frontiers has to offer its members. They sponsor four main types of activities:
- Two major gatherings – The Holiday Luncheon and the Spring Picnic
- Monthly Out-to-Lunch – Local restaurants are chosen for their variety of cuisine. They plan for an attendance of up to 25 and an RSVP requested so reservations are confirmed with the restaurant.
- Study Hall - It is a late afternoon gatherings at local sports bars and grills. The events have a very informal atmosphere and venues are selected that lend themselves to easy conversation. An RSVP is not required.
- Outings – Visits are usually monthly, to local museums or institutions that are interesting to a general audience and have an educational element. Outings have included The Hall of Flame Firefighting Museum in Tempe, the Huhugam Heritage Center on the Gila River Indian Community and the and the Phoenix Herpetological Society in Scottsdale.
The Social Committee is always seeking new experiences to offer New Frontiers members. Suggestions are always welcome and additional participation in our committee would be wonderful.
The committee meets at 10 AM in the Board Room, second floor, at the Mesa Public Library, 64 East 1st Street, Mesa AZ, 85201, (Google Map) on the first Monday of each month of the regular school session.
The Social Committee plans and organizes all the social events of New Frontiers. Where would we be without fun social events to help us meet other members and acquire lifelong friendships?

Volunteering Committee
Volunteers are the heart of New Frontiers for Lifelong Learning. Our members generously contribute their time, energy, and expertise to keep the organization thriving. In recent years, NFLL volunteers have dedicated more than 5,700 hours supporting curriculum development, membership services, social activities, communications, volunteer committees, and the NFLL Board of Directors.
In addition to serving within the organization, NFLL members actively participate in outreach efforts that strengthen our connection to the community.
Over the years, NFLL volunteers have contributed to college and community initiatives such as the MCC Commission on Excellence in Education and the Center for Community and Civic Engagement. Members also routinely support Mesa Community College programs, including:
- Empty Bowls This is a fund raiser for Paz de Cristo Outreach Center that helps people struggling with hunger, poverty and homelessness in the Phoenix East Valley.
- Mesa Market Provides students with free food, clothing, hygiene products.
- We Care Wednesdays A food distribution open to all students, staff, and community members in need of food assistance, held the 1st Wednesday at Dobson campus and the 3rd Wednesday at Red Mountain campus during each semester.
- Books Off the Shelf (formerly The Human Library).
- MCC Theatre and Performing Arts Center on campus Helping usher during their first-class concerts and performances where you get to enjoy the event as well as help out with your service
